Fulfillment fee changes for dangerous goods

FBA has separate fulfillment fees for dangerous goods (also known as hazardous materials or hazmat) that require special handling and storage. For more information, see FBA Dangerous Goods (Hazmat) program and the Dangerous goods identification guide.

The following fulfillment fee adjustments for items sold through the FBA Dangerous Goods program will take effect on June 1, 2021. Note that we will no longer have separate rates for apparel and non-apparel dangerous goods.

Calculate the shipping weight

Shipping weight is determined by the unit weight or dimensional weight, depending on size tier and which is greater. Dimensional weight is equal to the unit volume (length x width x height) divided by 139. The dimensional weight for oversize items assumes a minimum width and height of 2 inches.

On June 1, 2021, we will eliminate the packaging weight adjustment when determining shipping weight, as shown in the tables below.

Before June 1, 2021

Size tier Packaging weight Shipping weight

(round up total to nearest whole pound)

Standard size (1 lb or less) 4 oz Unit weight1 + packaging weight2
Standard size (more than 1 lb) 4 oz The greater of the unit weight or dimensional weight3 + packaging weight
Oversize 1 lb The greater of the unit weight or dimensional weight + packaging weight
Special oversize 1 lb Unit weight + packaging weight

1The unit weight is the weight of an individual unit.

2The packaging weight is the weight of the box and packing materials. Amazon uses these standardized weights for calculating shipping weight.

3For large standard-size units weighing more than 1 lb and all small oversize, medium oversize, and large oversize units, Amazon uses dimensional weight when it is greater than the unit weight.

June 1, 2021, and after

For small standard-size and large standard-size units weighing more than 0.75 lb and all small oversize, medium oversize, and large oversize units, Amazon uses dimensional weight when it is greater than the unit weight.

Size tier Shipping weight*

(If less than 1 lb, round up to nearest whole ounce. If 1 lb or over, round up to nearest whole pound.)

Standard size (0.75 lb or less) Unit weight
Standard size (more than 0.75 lb) The greater of the unit weight or dimensional weight
Oversize The greater of the unit weight or dimensional weight
Special oversize Unit weight

*The unit weight is the weight of an individual unit.

Frequently asked questions

When do these changes take effect?

The new fulfillment fees take effect on June 1, 2021.

Will the fee changes apply to products ordered before June 1, 2021?

The FBA fulfillment fees are calculated and charged when shipments leave Amazon fulfillment centers. As a result, if a product is ordered before June 1, 2021, but is shipped on or after that date, the new FBA fulfillment fees will apply.

How do I determine what product size tier my product belongs to?

Use the product size tier table to determine your product's size tier.

What is the status of ASIN quantity limits

Since the peak holiday shopping season, we have relaxed restock limits to a point where they have minimal impact on most sellers.
