In order to simplify listing experience for products under shoes category, Amazon plans to remove department_name from listing experience (custom templates, category-specific inventory file templates, and product updates made one at a time). To derive the department name, Amazon will use two attributes which already exists as mandatory attributes in listing experience for shoes: footwear_age_group and target_gender.
This change will be made any time after 10/28. After this time, department will be removed from listing experience, but the department attribute will remain in Amazon catalog. Amazon will automatically derive department_name values from footwear_age_group and target_gender which are mandatory attributes, as shown below.
