Bicycle, ski, and snowboard helmets covered by this policy

Bicycle helmets

A bicycle helmet is any headgear that is marketed as, or implied through marketing or promotion to be, a device that protects a bicycle rider from head injuries while riding. This policy does not cover helmets specifically marketed or promoted for exclusive use in a designated activity other than riding a bicycle, such as skateboarding, rollerblading, baseball, or hockey. If a helmet is marketed or promoted for use while riding a bicycle in addition to another activity, it is covered by this policy. A multi-purpose helmet marketed or promoted without specific reference to the activities in which it is to be used is also covered by this policy.

This policy does not include bicycle helmets that are designed, intended, or marketed for use by children 12 years of age and younger. Please visit our policy on children’s bicycle, ski, and snowboard helmets.

Ski and snowboard helmets

Ski and snowboard helmets are specifically designed and constructed for use while skiing and snowboarding. These helmets consist of a hard outer shell constructed from materials including, but not limited to, plastic, fiberglass, or carbon fiber, and a padded inner core, typically made from expanded polystyrene foam. This policy does not cover helmets specifically marketed or promoted for exclusive use in a designated activity other than skiing or snowboarding, such as skateboarding, rollerblading, baseball, or hockey. If a helmet is marketed or promoted for use while skiing or snowboarding in addition to another activity, it is covered by this policy.

This policy does not include ski and snowboard helmets that are designed, intended, or marketed for use by children 12 years of age and younger. Please visit our policy on children’s bicycle, ski, and snowboard helmets.
