Throwable Personal Flotation Devices (PFDs)

Important: If you supply products for sale on Amazon, you must comply with all federal, state, and local laws and Amazon policies applicable to those products and product listings.

The listing of all United States Coast Guard (USCG) Type IV Throwable Personal Flotation Devices (PFDs) on the Amazon website must meet specified certification standards. Note that Amazon may remove your selling privileges for failing to meet these standards. To sell these products on Amazon, you must apply by submitting the following information to lifesafetyequipment@amazon.com:

  1. Company name
  2. Vendor/Seller ID
  3. Email address
  4. Phone number
  5. A list of ASINs you are applying to sell
  6. Either a confirmation that you are the manufacturer of the products, or copies of invoices from your supplier issued in the last 180 days that reflect your sales volume
  7. A document from a nationally recognized testing laboratory that confirms that your product was tested according to the standard listed in the table below:
    Marketplace Certification requirement
    Buoyant cushions ANSI/UL 1175
    Ring buoy ANSI/UL 1123
    Horseshoe buoy ANSI/UL 1123

The information you submit must be true, authentic, and accurate. Amazon may remove your selling privileges for failing to meet these requirements.

Personal Flotation Devices (PFDs)

Personal Flotation Device (PFD): A piece of equipment designed to assist a person to remain afloat in water. PFDs are a large category of items which include life vests, boating vests, ring buoys, horseshoe buoys and throwable cushions. Only a PFD marked as USCG Type IV (or Type V with Type IV performance) is considered a throwable PFD.

Note: Unless specifically marked otherwise, a wearable PFD is not a throwable PFD.

Buoyant cushion

A throwable, square-shaped PFD used to keep a person afloat in water.

Ring buoy

A throwable, ring-shaped PFD used to keep a person afloat in water.

Horseshoe buoy

A throwable, U-shaped PFD used to keep a person afloat in water.
