Fire and other safety products

Important: If you supply products for sale on Amazon, you must comply with all federal, state, and local laws and Amazon policies applicable to those products and product listings.

Amazon’s policies require that certain fire and other safety products sold through the Amazon must meet specified certification standards. To sell these products on Amazon, you must apply by submitting the following information to lifesafetyequipment@amazon.com:

  • Company name
  • Seller/Vendor ID
  • Email address
  • Phone number
  • A list of ASINs you are applying to sell
  • Documentation from a nationally recognized testing laboratory, which confirms that your product was tested and certified according to the standard listed in the following table.

Fire and other safety product definitions

Smoke alarms

Smoke alarms issue a local audible or visual alarm to notify the presence of smoke as an indicator of fire. These products are typically found in homes.

Smoke detectors

Smoke detectors issue a signal to a fire alarm control panel, as part of a larger fire safety system, to notify the presence of smoke as an indicator of fire. These products are typically found in commercial environments.

Carbon monoxide alarms

Carbon monoxide alarms are intended to raise a local audible alarm before dangerous levels of carbon monoxide accumulate. Carbon monoxide alarms are intended to detect the presence of carbon monoxide from sources such as, but not limited to, exhaust from internal-combustion engines, abnormal operation of fuel-fired appliances, and fireplaces.

Water-based agent fire extinguishers

Water-based agent fire extinguishers extinguish or control small fires by removing the heating element of the fire triangle with a water based agent.


Carbon dioxide fire extinguishers

Carbon dioxide fire extinguishers extinguish the fire by removing the oxygen element of the fire triangle, and also by removing the heat with a very cold discharge.


Dry chemical fire extinguishers

Dry chemical fire extinguishers extinguish the fire primarily by interrupting the chemical reaction of the fire triangle.


Water fire extinguishers

Water fire extinguishers extinguish the fire by removing the oxygen element of the fire triangle, and also by removing the heat with a very cold discharge.


Smoke Masks

Fire and smoke masks are air-purifying respiratory-protective smoke escape devices (RPEDs). It includes air-purifying respirators that protect a person from a fire by removing harmful contaminants from the inhaled air. Such products may use a filter, cartridge, canister, sorbent, or catalyst; or a combination of these items, to remove such contaminants.
