Add negative keywords with bulk operations

You can add negative keywords to campaigns or ad groups to stop those keywords from showing your ads.

To start the process, download a bulk spreadsheet from existing campaigns.

  1. Open your bulk file in a spreadsheet application, such as Excel.
  2. Create a filter to locate the campaign your want to add negative keywords to. You can add negative keywords to campaigns with automatic or manual targeting.
  3. Enter one negative keyword per blank row, providing the following information:
    • Campaign name: Must match the name of the campaign it applies to.
    • Keyword
    • Match Type: Enter "Campaign Negative Exact" or "Campaign Negative Phrase".
  4. Save the spreadsheet to your local hard drive.
  5. Upload your spreadsheet. Learn more about uploading a bulk operations spreadsheet
Tip: To reduce processing time, delete rows that do not contain updates and save your changes before you upload the file. Deleted rows will not be changed when you upload the file.
