Personal Computers

A good title for your computer listings can help customers buy your products with confidence. Use the following guidance to create a good title.

  • Be descriptive enough for a customer to make a purchase decision based on the information in the title alone.
  • Titles should be 150 characters or less.
  • Capitalized the first letter of each word (unless the vendor or product name is deliberately spelled with a lowercase letter). If you are unsure about the exact product name, check the manufacturer's website for the format to use.

Title Format

[Manufacturer] + [Series] + [Model #] + [Notebook Screen Size] + [Laptop/Desktop] + ([Processor Speed] + [Processor Name] + [Processor Type] + "Processor," [RAM], [Hard Drive], [O/S]) + [Color (if applicable)]

You must avoid the following practices when creating a title for your products:

  • Using marketing words like "stylist," "lightweight," "genuine," or "original."
  • Including condition information like "New," "Refurbished," "Remanufactured."
  • Using the term "Original Equipment Manager (OEM)" in your title. It might be confusing to customers.
  • Mentioning color in the title, unless it is a special feature of the product, like a limited edition where color is important. (For example, "Microsoft Wireless Notebook Optical Mouse 3000-Dragon Fruit Pink").
  • Including warranty information in the title. (For example, "with LIfetime Replacement Warranty").

Good examples:

  • Toshiba Satellite U405D-S2848 13.3" Laptop (2.0 GHz AMD Turion X2 Dual Core RM-70 Processor, 3 GB RAM, 250 GB Hard Drive, DVD Drive, Vista Premium) Fusion
  • Apple MacBook Pro MB133LL/A 15.4" Laptop (2.4 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo Processor, 2 GB RAM, 200 GB Hard Drive, DVD/CD SuperDrive)
  • Sony VAIO VGN-SR140E/P 13.3" Laptop (2.26 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo P8400 Processor, 3 GB RAM, 250 GB Hard Drive, Vista Premium) Pink
  • HP Pavilion M9350F Desktop (2.5 GHz AMD Phenom X4 9850 Processor, 6 GB RAM, 750 GB Hard Drive, DVD Drive, Vista Premium)

Include additional descriptions for your product in the following order:

Bullet Description Example
1 Overall synopsis of product Pen tablet with USB connection
2 Major feature 1.024 levels of pressure-sensitivity
3 Minor feature Customizable menu shortcut buttons
4 Materials and construction (if important, if not, another feature is fine) Thick, durable overlay
5 Warranty or accessory information Limited lifetime warranty

Warranty Information

Provide accurate warranty information in the bullets and/or product description and listing comments. When listing products with the "New" condition type, the original manufacturer's warranty, if any, must apply (see Condition Guidelines). Do not indicate that the product has a valid manufacturer's warranty if it does not. Do not indicate that use of your accessory "will not void the warranty" of the base device.

Example of prohibited warranty information:

The Techno replacement battery for Dell Inspiron models will not void the original manufacturer's warranty.
