Amazon Warehousing and Distribution fees

To address our storage and operational costs, we charge three fee types for Amazon Warehousing and Distribution (AWD): storage fees, processing fees, and transportation fees. Review the table in the AWD fee rates section below for updated rate information for these fees.

For each of these fee types, the following tiers apply through March 31, 2025:

  • Base rate: The base rate applies if you use your own transportation or carrier service for shipments that are sent to AWD.
  • Integrated rate: The integrated rate applies if you use Amazon Global Logistics, Amazon Global Selling SEND, or the Amazon Partnered Carrier program as the upstream transportation or carrier service provider. To be eligible for the integrated rate, you must have sent at least one shipment to AWD via one of these services in the previous four calendar months. Eligibility is assessed on the 25th of each month for the following month’s charges. For example, to determine your eligibility for charges assessed in May, we’ll confirm on April 25 that you sent a qualifying shipment between January 1 and April 25.

Effective April 1, 2025, we’ll change how the base rate is applied and will introduce new smart storage and Amazon managed rates. Starting on this date, the 2024 rates will be discontinued and the following AWD fee tiers will apply by SKU:

  • Base rate: The base rate applies when you manually manage replenishment to fulfillment centers. It is no longer determined by the inbound carrier method.
  • Smart storage rate: The smart storage rate applies to a SKU when you use AWD auto-replenishment to move inventory of that SKU from AWD to FBA. To qualify for this rate, your SKU must meet the criteria below. We’ll calculate these metrics on your behalf and apply the smart storage rate automatically when you meet the criteria.
    • Auto-replenishment ratio: At least 70% of your SKU's inventory must be sent to fulfillment centers through AWD auto-replenishment in the preceding 90 days.
    • Combined historical days of supply: Your SKU's inventory level across AWD and FBA must be equal to or greater than 70 days relative to historical demand. To determine this, we calculate the average daily inventory across both AWD and FBA, and we divide that number by the average shipped units from FBA. We evaluate this metric over two periods: the last 30 days (short-term) and the last 90 days (long-term). We select the higher value of the two periods and determine whether it is equal to or greater than 70.

We assess your SKU’s eligibility on the 25th of each month for the following month’s charges. For example, for charges to be assessed in June, we’ll confirm on May 25 if your SKU has met the criteria.

  • Amazon managed rate: When you choose the Supply Chain by Amazon Managed Service for your SKU, an Amazon managed rate applies that includes 20% off AWD storage fees for that SKU and 10% off AWD transportation fees from AWD to FBA for that SKU. For details, go to Amazon Managed Service.

Also, effective April 1, 2025, the AWD processing fee will be divided into an inbound processing fee (when inventory is received in the distribution center) and an outbound processing fee (when a replenishment order is delivered to Amazon's fulfillment network or other sales channels).

Applicability of FBA fees

When you use AWD auto-replenishment or the Supply Chain by Amazon Managed Service, AWD automatically replenishes your inventory to FBA fulfillment centers based on demand signals. Because Amazon manages inventory levels for that SKU, the low-inventory-level and storage utilization fees don’t apply to that SKU, so long as you auto-replenished 70% or more of that SKU to FBA through AWD over the previous 90 days.

Starting April 1, 2025, there will be two changes to FBA fee applicability on inventory sent to Amazon's fulfillment network via AWD auto-replenishment or the Supply Chain by Amazon Managed Service:

  • The FBA aged inventory surcharge for products stored between 181-365 days will not apply to your SKU when you auto-replenish 70% or more units of that SKU to FBA through AWD over the previous 90 days. The surcharge does not apply because Amazon managed your inventory levels.
  • If you use AWD auto-replenishment but limit the maximum number of units of a SKU that can be auto-replenished to FBA, the low-inventory-level fee will apply to that SKU if the inventory level falls below the required days of supply in FBA.

Frequently asked questions

How can I view my combined historical days of supply and auto-replenishment ratio?

You can download the AWD Fee Metrics report, located under AWD fees on the AWD reports page, or check the AWD Inventory dashboard. The fee metrics report and the discounted fee metric column on the AWD Inventory dashboard will be available starting February 15, 2025. To learn more about auto-replenishment, go to Replenishment from Amazon Warehousing and Distribution (AWD) to FBA network.

Are there AWD rates for new sellers or new products?

New sellers, who do not have historical days of supply data, automatically receive the smart storage rates by default for the first 90 days after their first shipment is received in AWD or FBA, whichever is first. Similarly, products that are new to FBA receive the smart storage rate by default for the first 90 days after the first shipment is received in AWD or FBA, whichever is first.

How can I check which rate was applied to my SKU?

To check which rate was applied to a SKU, follow these steps:

  1. Go to AWD reports.
  2. Download the AWD storage and AWD transportation monthly reports.
  3. Check the Rate type column. If the rate type is AWD smart storage, then your SKU has received the smart storage rate and if it’s AMS rate, then your SKU has received the Amazon managed rate.
Note: Changes will be reflected starting April 1, 2025 for transportation fees and May 1, 2025 for storage fees.

How do you calculate combined historical days of supply?

To calculate the combined historical days of supply, we apply the following formulas:

Formula Example
Long-term historical days of supply (past 90 days)

Over past 90 days:

Average daily inventory units across AWD and FBA / average daily shipped units

Average daily inventory units across AWD and FBA: 563 units

Average daily shipped units: 7.1 units

Long-term historical days of supply = (563 units / 7.1 units)

Long-term historical days of supply = 79.2

Short-term historical days of supply (past 30 days)

Over past 30 days:

Average daily inventory units across AWD and FBA / average daily shipped units

Average daily inventory units across AWD and FBA: 510.2 units

Average daily shipped units: 12.6 units

Short-term historical days of supply = (510.2 units / 12.6 units)

Short-term historical days of supply = 40.5

How is eligibility assessed for the AWD smart storage rate?

A SKU is eligible when it has both of the following:

  • A combined historical days of supply ≥ 70 days (the greater of long-term or short-term historical days of supply)
  • An auto-replenishment ratio of ≥ 70%

Example 1: This SKU is eligible for the AWD smart storage rate because the combined long-term historical days of supply is above 70 days and the auto-replenishment ratio is more than 70%.

Auto-replenishment ratio percentage 72.12%
Historical days of supply

Historical days of supply: 81 (greater of below)

Long-term historical days of supply: 81

Short-term historical days of supply: 65

Example 2: This SKU is eligible for the AWD smart storage rate because the combined short-term historical days of supply is above 70 days and the auto-replenishment ratio is more than 70%.

Auto-replenishment ratio percentage 71.25%
Historical days of supply

Historical days of supply: 73 (greater of below)

Long-term historical days of supply: 69

Short-term historical days of supply: 73

Example 3: This SKU is not eligible for the AWD smart storage rate because the auto-replenishment ratio is less than 70%.

Auto-replenishment ratio percentage 68.52%
Historical days of supply

Historical days of supply: 73 (greater of below)

Long-term historical days of supply: 69

Short-term historical days of supply: 73

How do product seasonality or promotions affect eligibility for the AWD smart storage rate?

The AWD smart storage rate criteria account for seasonality and promotions because we evaluate the historical days of supply in the short term (past 30 days) and long term (past 90 days), and we use the greater value to determine eligibility for the AWD smart storage rate.

What happens if my product has no sales for 30 or 90 days?

If your product has had no sales in the past 30 or 90 days, your combined historical days of supply will be above 70 days. On AWD Inventory, the combined historical days of supply metric will appear as "--".

How do I know if the FBA low-inventory-level fee could apply to my SKU?

You can determine if the FBA low-inventory-level fee could apply to your SKU by checking the Eligibility column on the AWD Fee Metrics report, which will be located under AWD fees on the AWD reports page starting February 15, 2025. Starting April 1, 2025, the fee won’t apply to your SKU if both of the following criteria are met:

  • The auto-replenishment ratio is ≥ 70%.
  • You did not set a maximum limit on auto-replenishment to FBA in the last 90 days (the Max limit usage flag in the auto-replenishment report is 0; it shows 1 if a limit was set).

Example 1: The FBA low-inventory-level fee could apply to this SKU because the usage flag is 1 (meaning there is a maximum limit on auto-replenishment to FBA in the previous 90 days).

Auto-replenishment ratio percentage 72.12%
Max limit usage flag 1

Example 2: The FBA low-inventory-level fee is not applicable for this SKU because the usage flag is 0 and the auto-replenishment ratio is more than 70%.

Auto-replenishment ratio percentage 71.25%
Max limit usage flag 0

Example 3: The FBA low-inventory-level fee could apply to this SKU because the auto-replenishment ratio is less than 70%.

Auto-replenishment ratio percentage 68.52%
Max limit usage flag 0

How will the new inbound and outbound processing fees affect inventory inbounded to AWD before April 1, 2025?

Starting April 1, 2025, the AWD processing fee will be divided into two separate fees—an inbound processing fee and an outbound processing fee. Because this was previously a combined fee charged during outbound, inventory that’s inbounded before April 1, 2025, and that’s still in AWD as of that date, has not yet been charged an inbound processing fee. To transition, that inventory will be charged 50% of the 2024 processing fee (based on March 31 eligibility), and it will be charged the 2025 outbound processing fee if it’s outbounded after April 1, 2025.

Example: On March 31, 2025, if your SKU has 5,000 boxes in AWD subject to the AWD 2024 base rate (processing fee = $2.50/box), then we will calculate the processing fee at inbound as: 5,000 x $1.25 = $6,250.

To minimize the financial impact on you, the 2024 inbound processing fee charge will be split into three equal monthly installments across three months starting March 31, 2025. Using the example above, we would charge $2,083.33 in each of March, April, and May 2025.
