Can I sell items in groups like a grab-bag of books or knick nacks like charging cables and computer/mobile phone connectors? How would I go about listing them? The items would all be related on some way, not random groupings.

Bundling in the BMVD/Media category is expressly prohibited. Check out the Help Files for Amazon's definition of bundling in general and the bundling policy for other categories.

A seller-created bundle of books is a violation. A set of books can only be sold on Amazon if the set was created by the publisher and has its own unique ISBN. And before you say that you see "lots" of book bundles, be warned that those violators just haven't been caught yet.
