Hello all,

I booted up Stamps today and noticed a Parcel Select option, with free tracking. I did a sample run, and saw the label printed out as "USPS Parcel Select NPS". I was under the impression Parcel Select was for major shippers, unless they've rolled out Parcel Select for smaller shippers that don't presort (I assume that's what NPS stands for) ... what is the difference between this and Standard Post (or the old Parcel Post)?

Thanks!

It is in Endicia as well. Looks like it replaced Parcel Post.

Hmmm... based on a cursory scan of the rate tables, the Commercial Base pricing for Parcel Select NPS is still pretty high, even with free tracking. When would this service be useful? I still don't see a point in using USPS's ground services with other services such as PM FRE/FRBs, PM regional rate boxes, as well as FedEx's Ground/Home Delivery that are faster and cheaper ... if Parcel Select NPS gets the same service and priority that Parcel Post did.

Example: 4 lb from SE MI to Portland OR

Parcel Select NPS is 13.06 (Standard Post is 13.58)
Regular PM is 16.13 but Regional Rate A is 9.88 and Medium Flat-Rate is 11.3
FedEx Ground is 9.96 (+$2.8 for resi)

Just a shiny new name for the same bad service. That's the problem with the PO. Instead of correcting what they already have, they spend millions rolling out this "new Service name" and it's still the same old same old.............I know, being a 17 yr employee (window clerk)

If they want people to use their ground services, it needs to be priced lower ... in the above example, at least 30% before I stop defaulting to PM (or FedEx) ... or just stop offering the service entirely for us small shippers.
