Read onlyFrom December 8, 2022, new and existing product listings for certain product types must include color name, product description, and department name attributes. Since our previous announcement, size name has been removed as a mandatory attribute, and two product types have been added
Attributes will change from optional to required for the following product types.
All new listings for affected product types will require a valid attribute value, or the product will not be added to the catalog.
Your active listings will not be affected. To publish your inactive listings, go to Manage inventory to update your attributes now.
Does this mean if you are using something other than color in the color option the listing will be suppressed? for example: A listing that lists 10 different designs under color option or is that still okay?
After making the post above, I realized that it says
And the original post said:
So which is it? Just inactive listings or just new listings or is it existing listings or both new and existing listings? December 1st? December 8th? Left Hand? Right Hand? Proof readers? Who’s on first? Clarity? Which way is up? Zobo? Clueless? What?
And that is without even looking at what attributes in what categories are changing and how…

Aren’t Active listings considered to be existing listings?
So which one is it?
@Jim_Amazon
And how about an update from Amazon’s duplicate post on this subject?
Your last post about it was 21 days ago
Cant wait to wake up on the 8th and see nothing but Dogs! It will be the best Xmas ever!!! Like really do you think I have time to check thousands of listings during this time of year you are F’ing NUTS! I tell you what sounds like a brand owner issue so when the listings go down they will likely stay down.
Someone at AMAZON hates Christmas sales as there are thousands of listings that will go down permanently as the changes required can only be done by the BRAND OWNER!!!
Then this came out in Oct. I started updating our listings, over 1500 ASIN’s thousands of items in stock. I found that some had the Attributes already, shadowed in Gray above the space for the Attribute. What was being asked for was already in the Amazon catalog. I added it anyway. Many over the years had been Hijacked and changed with Irrelevant information just to have added enough to dominate the listing.
Found that the different listing, even related ASIN had different Manage Inventory Edit Fields, some with the Required Attributes fields, some not.
I have been working on this nights, weekends, holidays as the original message sounded like on Dec. 1 all listing would become Unsearchable. Just in time for Christmas.
Now last night the Message comes in that Active/Existing listing would not be impacted. Now reading further it sounds like if a listing has Inventory behind it, it’s safe but once it sells through and waiting for restock it will be suppressed. Is this correct.
Very confusing to say the least.
Do you really not have the ability to make this more readable?
Sheesh…
And despite the changes noted here that you have made to this policy, you just continue to ignore the basic facts posted by many of us (including @Medic here) on that previous thread and elsewhere:
Legitimate changes or additions that many of us have made to the catalog continue to not display on the detail pages because of issues on Amazon’s end!
And may I repeat myself by adding that maybe Amazon should address this glitch before telling sellers that they “must” do something that is, in fact, not always possible to do.
@Jim_Amazon popped in on that previous thread offering to help, but then, Poof! he was gone.
This is sadly becoming customary mod behavior.
