Read onlyHello,
I recently converted my inventory from FBA to FBM to save on storage fees. I noticed my first couple of orders were in the category of 4-14 business day shipping. Today I just changed the shipping to 3-5 business days. Anyone have any experience shipping 3-5 business days? How much does it cost? Any benefits in doing so? My goal is to increase sales, and I don’t see it happening with 4-14 business day option, but I also don’t want to pay a ton for shipping.
Any help is greatly appreciated.
Joe
Nobody knows what you are selling nor what courier you are using, what size of boxes you are using, what class of shipping you are using, or where you live. No one can help you without the missing vital information.
Why would it matter what I’m selling? It’s a normal sized item, fits in a regional box A on USPS. Currently it takes up to 14 days to ship with USPS.
And your second negative comment… I’m not sure what courier 3-5 business days uses for merchant fulfilled orders. Could be FedEx? Not sure, that’s why I’m asking for help…
Yes, 3-5 business days is a common transit time. The cost depends on the weight of the item, and the shipping method you use, so that’s why people can’t answer without knowing what you’re shipping. An item that weighs 6 lbs shipped via parcel post can take 3-5 days for about $25, but a 6 lb item shipped Media Mail also takes 3-5 business days and costs about $6.
If you’re asking if there’s a benefit in doing so compared to 4-14 business days, yes, there is - people obviously prefer the item that’s going to arrive sooner. And as someone else said, there is no readily apparent USPS option that takes 4-14 business days, so I don’t know if you’re referring to a shipping method, or if you use 4-14 to give yourself a whole lot of extra time by padding the transit time.
Go to the USPS site and use their Postage Price Calculator to find out the cost of any item you want to ship. You can also take just about any unshipped order and start the shipping purchase process through Amazon shipping and put in different weights to review all the available options and shippers and see pricing that way.
By shipping time, do you mean handling? Eg: the time it takes you to get it ready and into USPS hands? 3-5 days sounds excessive to me. And will to your customers also.
About the only way something will take 14 days is if maybe you are in HI or AK. So yes, where you are shipping from makes a difference. State and rural or city/suburban is all we need. Nobody is wanting your address!
Besides, why hide your state? Pulling teeth isn’t worth it. We’d rather eat popcorn.
Priority is 3-5 days. Even UPS ground coast to coast is only 7 days.
Regional Rate boxes are about the cheapest I’ve found and has very reasonable rates as noted above.

To all,
My current shipping settings says default 4-14 business days. I recently just shipped something that said arrive by December 19 which seemed long.
I tried changing the default setting to 3-5 business days, but when a family member added my product to their cart to check shipping options, it was not updated. I guess give it a day or so?
Also, my address is in Northeast Ohio. The product I’m shipping weighs 2lb 4oz with packaging and is 8x10x5.
The way it works for me now is when an order is placed, I receive an email notifying me. The email includes the type of box I must use, and also the transit time. I’m just not sure why the default was set to 4-14 business days. I feel I’m losing customers with this shipping service.
I appreciate the positive responses. As of now it costs appx. $10 to ship via USPS. Amazon charges the customer $5.70 every time something is ordered, so I may need to adjust the shipping price.
Currently I am an individual seller. Is this the problem??
To all,
I just upgraded my account and the problem has been fixed. It now says free shipping for economy. Thank you all for your help.
