New? Asking for reviews by email is prohibited?

I am always trying to keep up with Amazon’s policy changes. Maybe I somehow did not see this remark before or maybe it’s a new one. In Amazon’s Seller University, in the Customer Product Review Policies, on page 9 (last page) there is this remark:
“You can ask your customers to leave reviews on your products. However, you may not:
• Send customers emails to ask for reviews. Amazon automatically sends emails asking buyers to leave reviews.”

How does this even work? Is there any other way to ask customers to leave a review without sending and email?

Amazon already sends a “please review this product” email for every order.

You could include a note on the packing slip asking for reviews and seller feedback as long as the language is neutral (don’t ask for positive reviews or that they leave a review if they are happy with your service or product).

You can include an insert with your product asking the customer to leave a review. Policy states specifically it cannot be a “positive” review request. Here is additional information: Customer Products Review Policy

I never heard about Amazon prohibiting sellers from soliciting reviews, but if this is new, I like it.

In fact, if you want to get a review without sending an email, unless your product is very good.

As a buyer and a seller, I understand how we all want good reviews. But the one time a seller here actually wrote me an e-mail asking me to leave a review, I wrote back to tell them I found it offensive. As Amazon does always request that we review the items we purchase and I do. I have never in over 15, ever asked a customer to leave a review. I am new to Amazon Handmade, so I am glad to see that we are not supposed to email customers asking for reviews.

I checked the page you are referring to and they took out that line you are inquiring about. It no longer prohibits people from asking for reviews by email. Check this new updated policy

Truly tired of the “review” and “feedback” controversy form Amazon, and Ebay! If its soooooooooooo important to a seller, MAKE IT MEDIATORY FOR ALL PURCHASES! I sell 50+ items A MONTH. I have 15 feedbacks from the LAST YEAR! As you know there is NO incentive to leave feedbacks or reviews, UNLESS YOU ARE UNHAPPY…or the main reason: TO TRY AND GET SOMETHING FOR FREE. iTs more than obvious to every seller, no one cares but a seller, thats why its never changed in 15 yrs as only positive changes are made for BUYERS. You can even leave a review for a product purchased elsewhere other than Amazon!!! How insane is that!? If its so important, make everyone leave feedback about a purchase! Period. Most people that are happy have no reason to take time out of their day to do it and won’t and don’t. Fix the real issues Amazon, not just the ones that benefit Amazon!
