When we opened the account as a Seller, we were aware of the Amazon fees. But we got an order shipping to WA, where Amazon charges taxes and we were charges a Marketplace Facilitator Tax fee. Is this correct? Were you aware of this?
We have bee showing sales tax on orders shipping to WA and PA since Jan 1st, however we dont have any stores there, but Amazon does, not sure is Amazon collecting the tax and paying the states or are we supposed to get that extra tax money and pay the states? It shows plain as day like we the sellers are collecting tax. We are based out of Florida and only sell as a 3rd party, we dont use FBA, or SFP services.
At present Amazon collects sales tax on all orders from WA and PA
This tax is credited to your account and then that amount is deducted from your account.
You need to do nothing with this as Amazon will then submit that tax to the proper agency.
This actually has no effect on your account.
You are not paying a fee for this
Thank you for your replies. I read about it but still wasn’t clear if I needed to do anything or if it later would affect resulting in charges, etc.
It will not if the IRS deems you have never had constructive receipt of the funds. This differs significantly from other sales tax transactions.
It is a tax collected by Amazon from the buyer which is why it is called a Marketplace Facilitator Tax.
Never included a Marketplace Facilitator tax before. Never was one. The seller is not a party to that tax, unlike sales tax for which the seller is an unpaid tax collector…
Can you pls specify how much you were charged or better even provide a screenshot of the charge?
