How do I sell on Amazon when my products don’t have a SKU or EAN? How do I create a SKU or EAN for my products?

A SKU (Stock Keeping Unit) is just a number you make up to suit your own needs (might tell you the year you bought it, the shelf you keep it on, anything you want to encode in it) and has nothing to do with whether or not you can list the item on Amazon. If you don’t give an item a SKU, Amazon will make one up for you.

An EAN can be bought here http://www.officialeancode.com but the odds are greater that you need a UPC, not an EAN. You can find places buy either type of number using Google.

These products, are you the manufacturer? I only ask because generally… it’s the maker of an item who gets a UPC or EAN for it. If every seller did it… well, that would be silly.

You need a UPC to sell on Amazon. They are very inexpensive. You can purchase them online by Googling or on an auction site. You also can apply to Amazon for a UPC exemption.
This is the URL to apply for a UPC?/EAN exemption.

Just went through this same thing myself. It our case we are the manufacturer of our floral products so we decided to apply thru the “Brand Registry” program that Amazon has. If you are an individual seller you will have to upgrade to a pro merchant. Our request was granted very quickly (within hours) although Amazon said it could take up to 7 days to get an answer.
