Does sending Order Fulfillment feed also acknowledge the order?

That’s basically the question. I’m being told that updating the order with the carrier and tracking number via the Order Fulfillment feed will also acknowledge the shipment so I don’t need to submit an Order Acknowledgement feed. Is that true?
