I have been pressing Amazon to provide more information about how I (as a manufacturer and brand) can join the new Brand Gating program, so I can curtail the number of unauthorized and especially counterfeit sellers of my products.
I have spent weeks and weeks talking, emailing and chatting with Amazon Seller Support and keep getting routed to the Brand Registry program - which is not what I want.
Today, I got a better answer, and wanted to share it here…
I would like to inform you that, our Catalogue team periodically reviews the products sold on our website as a “Quality Check” to ensure that only genuine products are being offered to our buyers . Now, this quality check has become more important as we are frequently receiving complaints from buyers stating that the products that they received from was counterfeit, which is affecting authenticated sellers and in turn, Amazon is losing buyers trust on the product available in our website. Also, since the peak season is approaching, our catalogue team makes sure that no counterfeit/duplicate or poor quality products are offered for sale by any seller on our website and only original and authenticated products are available to buyers. In order to ensure this quality and built customer’s trust, we have started to restrict some of the top selling brands where we have encountered duplication of the brand name and the products.
The rest of the email explained what to do if one of my products had been restricted, and ignored my question about how to get into the program. So I asked again, and got this second response …
I am sorry to hear that of late you have been receiving numerous complaints of counterfeit products being received by the buyers, and you wish to do something to ensure that the violating sellers do not have the option to list under your offers and in turn you can have your brand gated to other sellers.
Please be informed that we have a separate team set up specifically for this purpose and it is the copyrights and trademarks team. Please know that due to confidentiality issues, we at seller support do not have enough details regarding the standard operating procedure about the copyrights team, however once you contact the copyrights team regarding your concern, you will be provided with the necessary update on the same.
