Shoe size values collected through a standardized format

by News_Amazon

On May 30, 2019, Amazon launched a new set of attributes specific to shoe sizes that will be used to display standardized and consistent size values to on-site customers. These standards will become enforced on August 30, 2019. Please refer to the Shoe Size Guidelines to set up or edit your listings before August 30.

I do think this - and the larger initiative it’s a part of - is a good solution to the fact that the shifting of production of such goods to offshore facilities, who demonstrably care nothing about adhering to long-accepted sizing standards for apparel, has produced no little amount of consumer dissatisfaction in Western Society’s marketplaces; let us hope that Amazon proves able to wield its mighty clout successfully in re-establishing acceptable standards that consumers around the world can count upon.

However, the lack of attention to detail in both today’s News Headline and in the linked Seller Help Content sheds some light on how the automated policing mechanisms (Amabots) so often have problems upon initial deployment.

The first sentence of the headline should read “On May 30, 2019, Amazon will launch…” - launched is past tense in the English language.

Similarly, Bullet point #1 of the “Errors” section of Shoe Size Standards (link) is missing the capital letter “T” in the initial word “The” :

"
Errors

  • he size is rejected and the feed, template submission, or 1 by 1 submission fails. A related error message appears in your processing report.
    "

Seemingly-minor details are easily overlooked - but Amazon can (and should) do better than this. Given its penchant for utilizing the services of specialists who do not command English as a First Language, inaccuracies in communicating properly, to acceptable minimum standards, can (and demonstrably do) mushroom into bigger problems down the line; if a premise is faulty at the outset, the faults, errors, and inaccuracies in the output are pretty-much inevitable - if not ineluctable.

Garbage In, Garbage Out…

It’s almost the same as the good old Microsoft Window days, since Microsoft monopolize the market they can care less and let the user debug for them,

Gee, it’s called EU sizing and has been in use in Europe for… ever. It is only the goofy Americans that make shoe sizing subjective. An objective measurement system is so obvious…

Anyone found the new template with updated fields? They said it would be available today but the shoe category template does not include any of the new required fields…

If the world would have just stuck to the barleycorn method, this would not have been an issue for the past 120 years.

Here’s a great idea. Roll out a new policy on 5/30 and on 6/1 make sure the templates are updated. SMH.
